One of the excellent aspects of the Imperial War Museum is the long span of its temporary exhibitions. The Spanish Civil War runs until 28 April 2002. Often, memorable Spanish works from the period are detached from their time in retrospective shows of the artist’s work, or other thematic gatherings. This exhibition enables one to see the masterpiece of a bronze head by Julio Gonzales, in company with superb posters, such as the work of the Republicans Jose Bardasano and that by Canavate, ‘Evacuad Madrid’, all within their real context of civil war.
