Beekeeper in Swansea

Bill Woodrow has produced an excellent thematic essay on the age-old allegorical figure of the beekeeper, on show at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in Swansea until 17 November. The elemental quality of such figures, their protective and protected engagement with nature, and the productive aspect of the activity itself all provide a strong inspiration both for artist and gallery visitor alike. Various scenarios are revealed, such as ‘Beekeeper and Pond’, and ‘Shadow of the Beekeeper’. The exhibition marks Woodrow’s further explorations into the world of allegorical art.
