Riven Tate

Industrial action at Tate Modern? It seems a contradiction in terms. How can the great emporium dedicated to displaying the promise of a better world be riven with strikes? The Institution of Professionals, Managers, and Specialists no less, is representing gallery staff, (including all three other Tate Museums) over a planned half-day strike in September to contest a mere 2.7% pay rise. In addition, the First Division Association, seen to represent more senior staff, is supporting the move. IPMS National Officer Alan Leighton, has written to Sir Nicholas Serota requesting that he give full authority to a negotiating team from the Galleries’ executive. Watch this space.
